Gaynelle Road Wing Wall Stabilization

Village of Tinley Park

Project Description

In this project, the wing walls at all four corners of the existing culvert have rotated out of the plumb position in varying amounts. Foundation Mechanics was the Prime Contractor to stabilize the wing walls. Though originally advertised as using tie-backs, FM chose to design a deadman system that consisted of steel whalers mounted to the back of the wingwalls, which was then tied to a structural concrete anchor block with 1.33 inch diameter rods.  This solution also provided drainage behind the wingwalls using free drainage stone that will greatly reduce the freeze-thaw action imposed onto the structure.
