Foundation Mechanics was issued a subcontract to install a drilled soldier pile, and tie-back wall system, to prevent further movement of the slope and structure. The photos above are of the pool house at the residence, which resides on the bluff in Highland Park and overlooks Lake Michigan. Localized slope failure had caused the structure to rotate and begin to move down slope.
The primary challenge to this project was access; non-conventional equipment was required, and all materials had to be designed and sized to where they could be handled by hand only. In addition to the tie-back wall construction, FM also built reinforced concrete pier collars for the existing columns 42” below grade.
