This project provided a newly constructed walkway access to the Winnetka Beach at Tower Road. The existing concrete stairs, retaining walls and walkway were removed and processed in place and acted as supplemental slope stabilization under the proposed walkway. The new staircase was similar in footprint but included longer platforms and more gradual sloping to make it easier to traverse down the steep slope. The activity deck was placed halfway down the bluff and can be used for viewing the lake, resting, exercise, or educational purposes. The ADA accessible deck was constructed at the top of the bluff and offers amazing views of Lake Michigan. One of our favorite features of this Project was the dry creek bed where FM employees worked side by side with the design team to ensure each boulder had its proper placement.
