Weigh-In-Motion Replacement
Client: Veterans Memorial Tollway

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involved the demolition and replacement of a section of median barrier wall for the installation of a new pole foundation and junction boxes, the removal of an existing weigh-in-motion system, and the replacement of that area with accelerated concrete patches that could only be performed during special weekend traffic closures. Electrical infrastructure was installed outside of the right shoulder including hand holes, conduit, a helix foundation with pole, electric disconnect and WIM cabinet and foundation. Bore shots were performed under the roadway to connect the hand holes on the outside to the junction boxes and pole in the median. Over the course of two special weekend traffic closures, pavement was removed across all three lanes in order to install custom 12' x 15' precast concrete pavement slabs that contain the sensors for the weigh-in-motion system. This work has provided the Tollway with a weigh-in-motion system (eliminating the need for a truck weigh station), overheight vehicle detection system, and a tire anomaly classification system.
